Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 children from a poor family kids who would grow in the same household, figured out very early on how to conquer of her difficulties with her incredibly imaginative imagination. Before she could read and write she was making up the songs she wrote herself. After getting her first instrument at age of eight, she started to play on radio stations in Knoxville in Tennessee. Gold Band Records is a small, independent label. In high school She made her mark local, but longed for a larger stage. The day she was able to graduate from high school, in 1964. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female vocalist for his show that was syndicated at this point. Parton accepted the job in 1967 signed to RCA Records in 1968 and was a part of the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. She quit Wagoner's act in 1974, when her solo hits like Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene beat out the collaborations. Following their breakup, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it reached No. 1 for the first time in 1974.
