Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was born in Barcelona and has been dubbed an "atypical pop star" due to her many musical styles. [9] After being enthralled by Spanish folk music at the age of 13years old, she pursued a degree in musicology at the Catalonia College of Music while also performing in musical bars and weddings.She completed her studies with distinction due to her album of cover songs that she collaborated together with Raul Refree in Los Angeles (2017) as well as the Baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). Combining flamenco, hip hop and pop music the album produced "Malamente" (single) and "Pienso in tu Mira" (single). Both singles sold out and were praised by critics across the world. El Mal Querer was the first to introduce Rosalia on the international music stage. [12][13(13) Rosalia was a pioneer of urbano music through her albums of 2019 "Con Altura" and "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi", achieving global success. Her third studio album Motomami (2022) introduced reggaeton to an exciting new sound, breaking away from the previous flamenco style. The album received international attention due to its singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" and was subsequently the album that received the highest rating of the year on Metacritic. Rosalia has amassed ten number-one songs throughout her career in her country of birth. This is the highest number for an artist hailing from the area. Rosalia has also been awarded two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the year awards), four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among others. In 2019, Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award for "changing the music of the present day music by introducing a fresh, flamenco-inspired pop",[18and she became the first singer from Spain in history to be nominated for the Best New Artist award at the Grammys
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Rosalia is the youngest of four children to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who runs a small metalworking company. Jose Manuel Vila, her father was born in Cudillero. The couple divorced in the year 2019. [23] Rosalia's older sister Pilar Vila is born in 1989, is her stylist. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts at an early age, and particularly after discovering the discography of Camaron de la Isla. At the Taller de Musics, she began her musical education. She completed a 6-year program at the academy. She began in the Raval school, then moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she worked as an independent singer at weddings and musical bars, for which she was paid "a little over 80 euros, or as a payment for dinner". Rosalia was able to meet many underground Spanish musicians during this time period such as La Zowi and Yung Beef, Kaydy Case, Hinds, Maria Escarmiento, and Kaydy Cain.
